The Jemibewons wanted documentary-style photos that feel like real life, rather than posed and rigid photos, to truly capture their family in this current season.
We started this session in their home – of mom painting the girls’ nails, of the twin boys showing me their cool room (jumping on the bed and showing off their swords and trophies and artwork), of the oldest daughter presenting her collection of stuffed animals. After we got some photos on the front steps, we took a meandering walk down to their neighborhood beach. We looked for cool rocks, bugs, flowers, and splashed in the water!
My approach for this session was to be laid back and let the children lead, while simultaneously being proactive in getting individual shots or smaller groupings throughout the session. I wanted to be careful to not come in with my own agenda of the photos I wanted. Rather, I wanted to show up, see what the needs of this family were, and follow where the energy of this crew led. It felt like a fun play date with a camera in tow. So happy with how these turned out, and I do think they give an honest depiction of what life in this season feels like for the Jemibewon crew.
